We could have the indoor velodrome soon if lots of cyclists show up and press for its inclusion in this new project! May 16th from 6:30-9:30pm there is a “Public information session on the Coronation Rec Centre” at Edmonton’s Central Lions Senior Centre (11113 – 113 St).
Even if you are not a track rider your support and ideas are important. This information session gives Edmonton (and the greater area) cyclists a chance to be a part of making Edmonton a top North American cycling destination. The Argyll Velodrome Association has been working with the City of Edmonton to provide a new indoor cycling track. The first stage of planning is underway with the velodrome as part of the Coronation Rec Centre. A quick summary of what has been occurring:
- Currently we are looking to have a track in a Recreational Centre setting
- The facility would be located in Coronation Park
- The creation of this facility would allow us to have world class level training and racing throughout the seasons
However, none of this can occur with out the help of the community. So now comes the point when we need Canada’s cyclists (aka you!) to help this project along.
This session is a chance for you to give any ideas you have for the track, and for you to give input on ideas that have already arisen.
So please come support and invite any cycling/triathlete friends along. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail. Please RSVP your attendance to James.thompson at edmonton.ca, or if you’re far away, please email him your letter of support.
On behalf of the AVA project steering committee.
As some of you are aware we have changed the structure of midweek training a bit at the velodrome. The plan for this year is that members of Juventus, Velo, ERTC and EMCC will have access to the three program nights as well as the legend that is Thrusday night TRACK LEAGUE! Along with other world class events.
The week to week structure:
MAY to EARLY JUNE
Monday - Structured/group training. This is intended to be mostly more general fitness and track skill training.
*** NEW RIDERS try to come early (like at 5:00pm) and we can get through some basics before joining the program
****It is possible to rent a bike from AVA
****If you are coming to this session you are working with the group (they are fun though so its ok)****
Tuesday - (5:30 - 7:30) LAMP (juventus kids program) and Race training (7:00 - ??)
With the race training we will try to incorporate what everyone wants to do.
Wednesday - Open training - we will probably have a Gentleman’s Ten miler at 6:30 (stay tuned for final times)
Thursday - TRACK LEAGUE!!!! - you should go
Friday - …apparently there is a great big world outside the track… go enjoy it.
Summer preview:
JUNE to AUGUST
Monday - Race Training / Motor pacing
Tuesday- Structured group training (same caveats as above)
Wednesday- open training/GT
Thursday- TRACK LEAGUE!!!
Friday - Track League Recovery… aka closed
This is a bit of an experiment and our hope is that this will allow more people more opportunity to train here. If you have any questions/comments (good or bad) feel free to contact Jeff
See you at the Track!
17 WEEKS OF TRACK LEAGUE! commences on Thursday May, 5 at 7:00pm
This year in addition to the long tradition of Track League! activities we are adding a TEN MILE EVERY WEEK!
That’s 277km of track racing alone! **(including neutral lap!)
While the Ten mile will not count to Track League! points I am told by sources that there may be a Title Belt in the works… and everyone likes a title belt.
See you all on the track!
